WHAT IS A FRAPPE?
\
A frappe is an iced beverage that has been shaken, blended or beaten to produce a tasty, foamy, and refreshing drink. It is served cold, often with whipped cream and toppings. You can add ice before or after beating the coffee and customise the taste with additives such as sugar, milk, vanilla, and sweet sauces.
WHAT IS AN ICED COFFEE FRAPPE?
A delicious iced coffee frappe drink is generally made up of water, espresso, sugar, milk and ice. It is shaken, blended or beaten to combine the ingredients. It tends to be served with whipped cream and flavoured syrups, such as: vanilla, caramel or hazelnut and presented in a tall glass. Traditionally a Frappe is made with coffee, but it doesn’t have to be!
What is the difference between a frappe and a frappuccino?
Aside from the fact that both are types of iced coffee best enjoyed on a hot day, the frappe and the Frappuccino have little else in common. The frappe is Greek, while the Frappuccino is an American invention; its name is a portmanteau of “frappe” and “cappuccino.” The Frappuccino was first served in a New England coffee shop chain owned by specialty coffee pioneer George Howell. Another difference between Frappuccinos and frappes is that Frappuccinos are blended drinks. This gives them a different texture, more like a smoothie. Finally, Frappuccinos use a base of espresso, strong coffee, or coffee-free concoction Starbucks calls a crème. No instant coffee is involved. While a Frappuccino can be simple, it more often includes chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, plus a whipped cream topping.
Is a frappe just a milkshake?
No, a frappe is not a milkshake. The difference between a frappe and a milkshake is a point of contention in many parts of the country. In Boston, a frappe is typically considered to be a milkshake. However, in Greece, a cafe frappe is often made without ice cream or other flavourings and may not even include milk. The Greek frappe is typically made with instant coffee and sugar, shaken to form a froth and served over ice.
What is frappe coffee?
A frappe coffee is an iced coffee drink made from instant coffee, water, sugar, and milk. The word is often written frappe. The frappe was invented by Dimitris Vakondios, a Nescafe representative, in 1957 in Thessaloniki.
WHAT MILK SHOULD YOU USE IN AN ICED COFFEE FRAPPE?
When it comes to an iced coffee frappe, whole milk is the best choice for adding creaminess and richness. However, skim milk and non-dairy options such as soy milk, oat milk, almond milk and coconut milk also work well.
TYPES OF COFFEE YOU COULD USE AT HOME FOR YOUR ICED COFFEE FRAPPE
When making iced coffee at home, go for a medium to dark roast. This will give you an iced coffee with a rich flavour. I personally love Arabica coffee beans, and look for flavour notes of chocolate, nuts, and caramel.
COLD BREW COFFEE FOR AN ICED COFFEE FRAPPE?
Cold brew and iced coffee are both delicious, but they are made differently and have distinct tastes. When restaurants first started serving iced coffee, they simply poured hot coffee over ice. This method quickly cools the coffee, but it also dilutes the flavours. Cold brew coffee is made by steeping coarsely ground beans in cold water for 12 hours or more. This process extracts different flavours from the beans and results in a less acidic and smoother taste.
HOW SHOULD I SWEETEN MY ICED ICED COFFEE FRAPPE?
Different syrups can be used to flavour iced coffee. Simple syrup, made with equal parts sugar and water, is the most common. To make flavoured simple syrups, add ingredients like vanilla or cinnamon extract. This is how Starbucks flavours their hot and cold beverages.

What is the difference between iced coffee and a frappe?
Brewed coffee can be a great option for those who want a quick and easy way to make iced coffee. Simply pour a double shot of espresso over ice, add cold water if desired, and enjoy. If you prefer your coffee with milk or sugar, simply add these ingredients to the glass. For an extra boost of flavour, try using ice made from frozen coffee.
When it comes to frappes, they tend to be on the sweeter side and more often flavoured than cold brews or iced coffee. You can make a frappe with virtually any type of coffee, even instant. However, the best way to get that desired depth of flavour (to help balance out some of the inherent sweetness) is by using a double espresso.
To make your frappe, simply add 180ml of milk, a tsp of sugar, a handful of ice and your coffee of choice into a blender. You may want to replace the sugar for flavoured syrup or even some frappe powder. Once everything is in the blender, give it a whirl until the ice is chipped and all of the ingredients are combined.
